ACHIEVEMENTS 1998 – 2010:

  • Conducted a preliminary needs assessment study in Uganda – June 1999

  • Organised international symposium at the 11th International conference on AIDS and STD’s in Africa (ICASA) in Lusaka, Zambia – September 1999

  • Conducted a collaborative treatment awareness workshop at Kampala, Uganda -  April 2000

  • Organised second international symposium in South Africa, at the Durban World AIDS Conference, July 2000

  • Organised the first Great Lakes Conference on HIV & AIDS, which was held in Kampala, Uganda 6-9th Sept 2001.
     
  • Commissioned a feasibility study on setting up the Great Lakes Network for People Living with HIV and AIDS (GLNPWHA) – April 2002

  • Launched Great Lakes Network for People Living with HIV and AIDS at the Barcelona World AIDS Conference – July 2002

  • Organised the first of six capacity building workshops, for people living with HIV or AIDS in Kigali, Rwanda – March 2003

  • Organised the second capacity building workshop for PLHA organisations in Arusha, Tanzania - August 2003.

  • Organised the second Great Lakes conference of PLHAs held in Kigali, 16-19th Sept 2003.

  • Organised the third capacity building workshop in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo – March 2004.

  • Organised treatment literacy /capacity building workshop and launched GL Handbook in Bujumbura,  Burundi December, 2004

  • Developed in partnership with HIV-I base the Great Lakes Positive Handbook.

  • Support to the orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) & their caregivers

  • Launched the Great Lakes Positive Handbook in Uganda, 2005.

  • Conducted a Situational Analysis to OVC Service Providers in Northern Uganda-August 2005.

  • Established a Resource Centre that provides up to date information on HIV and AIDS prevention, treatment and care issues, Life skills and IT basic skills to the Orphans and vulnerable children (OVC), Women, Religious leaders, Community leaders, Youth and other vulnerable groups–September 2005.

  • Organised HIV and AIDS Treatment Literacy workshop for healthcare professionals in UPDF, Police & Prisons-November 2005.[pdf file]

  • Developed and launched in partnership with Commonwealth Foundation, an HIV and AIDS awareness poster to mark 25 years since HIV and AIDS. – June 2006.[pdf file]
